I play guitar, but I'm not even close to being good enough to play on my recordings. Now I play guitar, keyboards, vocals, and I'm not a bad engineer & producer and learning more every day. You either get serious about it and work hard at it, or pay professionals to fulfill your vision for you. There's no MAGIC button or program (with the exception of the Melodyne suite, but I digress). If you're as serious as you say you are on your website about being a songwriter, maybe you should put in the time to be a multi-instrumentalist. You beat me to it Cromberger!!! That was my next statement.īTW, Juan, what DO you play? Reading your bio it looks like you (sort of?) play guitar. What you're willing to put into it is what you'll ultimately get out of it, like everything else in life. Good luck in your search for the perfect bass line. But, when he's not around, I use all of the methods listed above to create bass lines that are really quite good. I freely admit that I'm spoiled when it comes to bass lines, as my writing partner is an exceptionally talented bass player. Better yet, find a bass player who is willing to work on your projects for the fun and experience of it. You play on his project, he plays on yours. The downside of Staff View is that, if you're trying to do a bunch of very complex rhythmic stuff, it's really time consuming.Īnother option is to make friends with a real bass player and trade your skills as a (whatever instrument you play) player for his skills. And entering notes in Staff View is a fantastic way to produce the exact bass lines that you're hearing in your head. Same is true of playing your own parts, though this will take more time if you don't play keyboards at all. I believe you can get great results with BIAB or Jammer, if you are willing to take the time to really tweak the results. It seems to me that the bottom line is, you're going to have to put a significant amount of effort into any method you choose to produce your bass lines. Obviously, though, anything you do with MIDI loops can be altered to your specifications via PRV or Staff View, so don't totally discount their use.

I'd love to find a piece of software that had a huge library of MIDI bass lines that give one enough variations to produce interesting and individualized bass lines, but I haven't found it yet. Not because they aren't good, but because, as you already said, they are very limiting. I don't like bass loops or pre-played samples. But, what in music doesn't require a lot of effort.? The work you put in will pay off in spades.Ĥ. Again, it does take time and work and practice. And, it's so easy to change anything you don't like. If you read music and understand a little bit of music theory, you can come up with some spectacular bass lines in this fashion. I do this alot, too, because you can audition any and all notes/lines very easily and change them immediately with very little effort. >) You can simply write in your bass lines. Do you read music? If so, the Staff View in Sonar is your friend. It only takes one hand and, if you practice a bit before you record, you can play some really cool and very believeable bass lines.ģ. I do this all the time and I'm not what you'd call a keyboardist. Already mentioned, and I know you don't have one, but you can buy a 29-key MIDI controller pretty cheap and it'll get your bass line ideas into Sonar, where you can further tweak them. It takes work, yes, but it's possible to make some pretty darned good bass tracks with these programs.Ģ.

I know that some of the bass lines I've programmed with Jammer Pro have fooled 2 friends of mine that are both *very* good bass players. If you're not getting "believable" bass lines from BIAB, you need to delve more deeply into it's abilities. I believe that Jammer and BIAB are *very* similar programs and both can be used to tweak your bass lines to your hearts content. I don't know BIAB, but I use Jammer Pro to generate a lot of my "basic" bass tracks. Lots of great suggestions that you've gotten already. What options do I have other than hire a bass player everytime?

#Broomstick bass windows 7 64 generator#

Is there any good MIDI bass line generator that has come up in the last couple of years. So I’m back at trying to come up with a way to do bass tracks myself. Then I tried loops (Bass On Demand and Smart Loops), which had the right feel but variety wasn’t all that great and the loops didn’t always transpose well… Lately, I’ve been hiring a bass player every time I need a good bass track, which works great but it’s expensive… That got me good sounding results and I liked the fact I could tweak the part as much as I wanted, but the feel wasn’t there. How do you guys get your bass tracks done? For the longest time I used band-in-a-box to generate the midi then use bass samples in Sonar. I got a quick question for those of you who don’t play bass ….
